Rory Sweeney

About Rory Sweeney

Rory Sweeney is a Dublin-based electronic artist known for his richly textured, kaleidoscopic music. Somewhere between Enya, Dean Blunt and Autechre, Rory uses dense production and a DIY ethos to create his fractured post-brainrot sound. A key presence in Ireland, Rory’s work with MCs, vocalists, and visual artists has garnered extensive critical acclaim, making him a central figure in Ireland’s flourishing musical ecosystem.

His album ‘Old Earth’ has seen support from Diplo, Mura Masa, James T. Merry (Bjork Creative director), Lord Apex, Mavi, LedByHer, Machine Girl, Maria Somerville, Niko B, Kibo, Objekt, Kojaque, Oblig, Deathtoricky, Gemma Dunleavy and Tony Bontana, amongst many others.

After the huge success of the Irish Hash Mafia Hip-Hop mixtape release in 2024 under his Carlos Danger moniker, Rory defined a new era of his electronic/experimental sound with his sophomore album Old Earth, one of the most anticipated releases of 2025. Old Earth sold out a limited vinyl run in just 2 weeks, landing at no.17 in the Irish charts. The achievement is all the more impressive when you consider it wasn’t released on Spotify or through a label. Beautiful, tense, existential and playful all at once, ‘Old Earth’ is Sweeney at his most dazzling and undefineable. The album is inspired by Stone Tape Theory, which posits that ghosts, hauntings and supernatural phenomena are the result of events being imprinted into the land. Sweeney uses the memory of the land and his own personal memory to reflect on accelerating tech capitalism, hauntological non places of modern ireland, the Irish otherworld and personal moments, playing with anachronism and physical sound. Old Earth is a reflection on disappearing time and memory in the information age, while trying to reckon with history and the esoteric.

Old Earth was an AOTY pick for Nialler9 (no. 4) and Genuine Irish (no. 2), The Thin Air, District Magazine & the Irish Times, landed Rory as one of the Irish Examiners ‘Ones of Watch in 2026’, praised by CRACK and Wonderland magazine.
