Northern Songs (Trans Orange Coloured Vinyl LP)

(Little Cloud Records / Cardinal Fuzz Records, 2020)

Immediately following their 2018 Autumn, European tour, the Asteroid No.4 returned to focus on the material that would eventually make up their 10th studio LP titled, “Northern Songs”. With the “Collide” experience of being in a hired studio behind them, the band longed for another opportunity to simultaneously write and record and at a pace where there was no pressure from a studio clock. Having finally secured a rehearsal space in San Rafael, CA, and one large enough to allow them to rebuild a recording set-up similar to what they once had in Philadelphia, the band began the process of writing each song, performing it live, then returning to modify as needed. This enabled them to further develop each song and give special attention to dynamics, instrumentation and the vocal harmonies that are known to represent their sound. The band took a slight reprieve from working on “Northern Songs” and used the recording of a new 7” titled “Under My Umbrella b/w House of the Seventh Moon” (Hypnotic Bridge) to test their new set-up. With all systems go, the Asteroid No.4 soon went on to complete their latest LP in March of 2020 and it will be released this summer on Little Cloud Records/Cardinal Fuzz. The new collection of songs continues an A4 tradition with no shortage of the jangly, 12- strings songs ala The Byrds and Rain Parade that they’re best known for with the injection of heavier psychedelic offerings that speaks to their influences Spacemen 3 and Loop.
